At the library sale this week, I found a children's book, beat up and tired, called Cowboy Small. the drawings were sweet, and as my step-father pere pierre's last name is Small, I thought I'd get it for him.
The library was his old childhood library, so his eyes widened when he saw the book. 'Oh, my sister and brother and I used to check this book out of the library all the time!' The copy was old enough to be the very one that he and his siblings would read. Hurrah for sweet coincidence.
Mom wanted to make a cake for Flame's birthday. He doesn't like sweets all that much, so I told her to nix the idea of a pineapple upside-down cake. Instead, she made a plain white cake and added Grape-nuts, Flame's favorite cereal, to the batter. The result was fabulous. The Grape-nut bits were softened in the baking and were like crispy yummy surprises for the mouth. My mother is a genius.
